Kris MacLellan

Kris has lived along Canada’s West Coast, above the Arctic Circle, against the Bay of Fundy and on Cape Breton Island. He now makes his home with his wife, daughter, and son on lək̓ʷəŋən Territory. Kris is an experienced rock climber who also enjoys wandering and hiking in the Vancouver Island wilderness.

Nominees for Vice-Chair

Jordan Goldsmith

This will be my second year involved with SICA, having been a director at large through the current year. I am highly driven by the community aspect of climbing and look forward to helping more this year!

Nominees for Treasurer

Rob Somogyi

Born and raised on Vancouver Island I have witnessed the many changes that have gone on in the evolution of climbing here. I have sat on multiple boards from stratas to associations where I’ve held positions from secretary to president. I currently am part owner of BoulderHouse Climbing and quite connected with the bouldering community. I believe that my board experience, community connections and history with climbing on the island make me an ideal candidate for the SICA board. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Nominees for Directors-at-Large (Minimum 4 positions * number to be set by ordinary resolution at AGM)

Allen Agopsowicz

President of Climbers' Access Society of British Columbia

Past President Victoria Climbers' Association

Past President of Wilderness First Aid and Safety Association

SICA Director handling CRD portfolio

Began climbing in 1988 at Fleming Beach and was trained in ropecraft, glacier travel, aid climbing and multi-pitch skills by ACMG Guides (later worked for same guides teaching). Founded the Victoria Climbing Assoc in 1994 to deal with the threatened closure of Fleming beach and began working with CRD shortly thereafter. Was original founding member of CASBC in 1995 to deal with access issues across the Province - that work continues to the present. Founding Director of SICA.

Dale Puskas

I'm a civil engineer working in local government for over 10yrs, delivering projects, utility services for the public, applying for and managing grants. As the Director of Engineering for Central Saanich, past Capital Projects Manager for 16 services in the CRD, and former strata council president for 9yrs I have a varied experience working with and on Boards, Councils, Committees, and Commissions.

I climb with my family. I am a novice indoor boulderer (?) looking to do more outdoor climbing this year and help promote this sport as a family friendly sport.

Jane Hofweber

My 3 best assets:

1. Government experience: I have 15 years of experience working within a government organization. This includes collaborating on multi-year policy and resource management projects with representatives from federal, provincial, and municipal levels of government.

2. Board experience: I served as Secretary for 2 years for the CFB Esquimalt scuba club. Also, I’ve been serving as a Director for SICA for 2.5 years.

3. Climbing relationships: My 20 years of climbing experience in Canada, USA, Cuba, and Switzerland has allowed me to cultivate a wide range of long-term relationships within local and international climbing communities. Notably, I have been interested in learning about the crag access concerns of climbers, Indigenous territory experts, and land managers. Locally, I am a member of the GOATS LGTBQ2S climbers collective, a member (in allyship) of the BIPOC Bloc group, and I am the founder of My Send Peeps (a group that offers cultural safety information and access assistance to outdoor climbing spaces).

In my personal life, enhancing diversity, inclusion, and safety is my jam! As a result, I believe climbing access work should address two key questions: Is climbing allowed here? Do climbers feel safe here?

Thanks!
