In 1996, the Township of Esquimalt settled on an arrangement to allow and support rock climbing on the wall at Fleming Beach. In 2026, the South Island Climbers Association invited climbers from near and far to join us in celebrating that milestone. 

Our event, Esquimalt Rocks: Celebrating 30 Years of Safe Climbing, took place on Saturday, June 6th, from 10:00 to 3:30. 

We enjoyed some sunshine and some drizzle, along with coffee and great friends. 

At noon we re-cut the ribbon, rededicated ourselves to the preservation of this amazing place, and enjoyed a BBQ lunch with friends. Tears were shed and great appreciation for this place was shared by all.

As always, Fleming Beach is a special place of gorgeous climbs and stunning sunset views! Cheers to another 30 years!!
