Nominees for Vice-Chair

Jordan Goldsmith

Jordan joined the board in 2022, and has served in the position of vice-chair since 2023. She has been climbing stuff and things since 2018, and also Co-Chairs the GOATS Queer Climbing Association. She is driven by the community aspect of climbing and looks forward to helping more this year!

Nominees for Treasurer

Rob Somogyi

Born and raised on Vancouver Island I have witnessed the many changes that have gone on in the evolution of climbing here. I have sat on multiple boards from stratas to associations where I’ve held positions from secretary to president. I currently am part owner of BoulderHouse Climbing and quite connected with the bouldering community. I believe that my board experience, community connections and history with climbing on the island make me an ideal candidate for the SICA board. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Nominees for Directors-at-Large (Minimum 4 positions * number to be set by ordinary resolution at AGM)

Allen Agopsowicz

President of Climbers' Access Society of British Columbia

Past President Victoria Climbers' Association

Past President of Wilderness First Aid and Safety Association

SICA Director handling CRD portfolio

Began climbing in 1988 at Fleming Beach and was trained in ropecraft, glacier travel, aid climbing and multi-pitch skills by ACMG Guides (later worked for same guides teaching). Founded the Victoria Climbing Assoc in 1994 to deal with the threatened closure of Fleming beach and began working with CRD shortly thereafter. Was original founding member of CASBC in 1995 to deal with access issues across the Province - that work continues to the present. Founding Director of SICA.

Dale Puskas

I'm a civil engineer working in local government for over 10yrs, delivering projects, utility services for the public, applying for and managing grants. As the Director of Engineering for Central Saanich, past Capital Projects Manager for 16 services in the CRD, and former strata council president for 9yrs I have a varied experience working with and on Boards, Councils, Committees, and Commissions.

I climb with my family. I am a novice indoor boulderer (?) looking to do more outdoor climbing this year and help promote this sport as a family friendly sport.

James Glickman has been climbing and developing bouldering areas on Vancouver Island for 25 years. He enjoys exploring new rock, from local areas to remote corners of the island, establishing problems, and sharing his discoveries with the climbing community. He believes in responsible development and stewardship to help preserve climbing opportunities for future generations.

James is also the owner of West Coast Resoles, the leading climbing shoe resoling business in Western Canada. Over the past decade, he has built the company into a trusted resource for climbers, staying connected with the wider industry and developing a strong appreciation for the people, places, and relationships that make the island’s climbing community what it is.

Jane Hofweber

My 3 best assets:

1. Government experience: I have 15 years of experience working within a government organization. This includes collaborating on multi-year policy and resource management projects with representatives from federal, provincial, and municipal levels of government.

2. Board experience: I served as Secretary for 2 years for the CFB Esquimalt scuba club. Also, I’ve been serving as a Director for SICA for 3.5 years.

3. Climbing relationships: My 20 years of climbing experience in Canada, USA, Cuba, and Switzerland has allowed me to cultivate a wide range of long-term relationships within local and international climbing communities. Notably, I have been interested in learning about the crag access concerns of climbers, Indigenous territory experts, and land managers. Locally, I am a member of the GOATS LGTBQ2S climbers collective, a member (in allyship) of the BIPOC Bloc group, and I am the founder of My Send Peeps (a group that offers cultural safety information and access assistance to outdoor climbing spaces).

In my personal life, enhancing diversity, inclusion, and safety is my jam! As a result, I believe climbing access work should address two key questions: Is climbing allowed here? Do climbers feel safe here?

Tim Jordison - Director at Large

Tim is an experienced climber who grew up scrambling in the Rockies and started climbing rocks with ropes around 2010. He cares about protecting access by respecting the territory we climb on, working well with land managers, and looking after these places so they last. He’s seen the tremendous benefit climbing can have on our physical and mental health, and is passionate about keeping outdoor climbing accessible and safe for everyone.

Nicolette might be one of the nerdiest members on SICA's board. Much of her time is devoted to reading adventure books or practicing rope rescue skills on trees, doorways, decks and, whenever possible, actual rock. She's currently devising a plan for how to consistently ice climb while living and working full time in Victoria.

Nicolette believes in giving back to the community that's given so much to her. That's why spends every Monday belaying for her friends at CARSA's Adult Adaptive Climbing program and one Wednesday of every month taking notes as SICA's Secretary.
